When you are mine is a stand alone thriller told from a police officers point of view。 I really enjoyed this twisty thriller that focuses on domestic abuse， rape， murder and police procedures。 Philomena McCarthy is a black belt In karate the daughter of Eddie Mccarthy and a police officer in London。 When Phil and her partner go on a domestic abuse call things get ugly fast。Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this digital arc。 All opinions are my own。

I like this author。 This is the 11th book of his that I've read。 He does so many things well: character development and their traits， relationships， descriptive strokes， plot， tension and mystery。 This one had all of that plus the kind of characters I can get behind and root for。 I love that kind of connection with them。 They are flawed， but strong， yet vulnerable。 It is a wonderful mix。Now at times some of his twists seem out of reach， but he manages to always anchor them down because it has me I like this author。 This is the 11th book of his that I've read。 He does so many things well: character development and their traits， relationships， descriptive strokes， plot， tension and mystery。 This one had all of that plus the kind of characters I can get behind and root for。 I love that kind of connection with them。 They are flawed， but strong， yet vulnerable。 It is a wonderful mix。Now at times some of his twists seem out of reach， but he manages to always anchor them down because it has me saying to myself， "Maybe！" I'm always eager to see where it goes and I manage to feel satisfied when things happen the way they do。 And satisfying is a word that describes the ending。The only thing that I found unsettling was the cluelessness of the MC。 More than a few times I wanted to reach in and shake her and say， "Wake。 Up。" The author however made her actions feel possible。 So I rounded up to 4。 。。。more

An unputdownable read for a rainy day。 A complicated but likeable protagonist， and oh so many plot twists。Just as I thought I knew which way was up the rug was pulled from under my feet again。 My only criticism was that the ending was somewhat abrupt。 Suddenly all the complications （or all but one） were unravelled seemingly in a split second while I wasn’t looking。 But still， a great read！

I saw so many rave reviews over When You Are Mine by Michael Robotham that I went into it really excited to see what it was all about。 Philomena （Phil） is a good female lead and， in some respects， she is pretty badass， especially when it comes to her karate and defense skills。 She did make some really stupid decisions in regard to her career that I definitely questioned， so I would describe her as a flawed but likable character。 Even though Phil is a police officer， this isn't a police procedura I saw so many rave reviews over When You Are Mine by Michael Robotham that I went into it really excited to see what it was all about。 Philomena （Phil） is a good female lead and， in some respects， she is pretty badass， especially when it comes to her karate and defense skills。 She did make some really stupid decisions in regard to her career that I definitely questioned， so I would describe her as a flawed but likable character。 Even though Phil is a police officer， this isn't a police procedural， and it is a mix of psychological thriller and crime fiction with a serious stalker vibe。 I didn't find the story to be as suspenseful as I was expecting， but there is enough going on that you don't want to put it down。 I am really glad that I decided to switch over to the audiobook which is narrated by Katy Sobey because the majority of the book felt pretty slow to me。 If I would have been reading it probably would have taken me quite a while， but I basically flew through the audio。 Sobey was a brilliant choice for Phil， and I loved listening to her narrate。 There is a domestic violence aspect that broke my heart and rape is a trigger as well although Robotham doesn't go into detail for either making it more on the mild side。 It still made this a pretty dark storyline though， and there were some surprises that I didn't see coming。 The end ended up giving me chills， and I also loved the mysterious quality of Phil's dad。 I thoroughly enjoyed When You Are Mine， and if you like stalker fiction and slow burns I highly recommend checking it out！I received a complimentary digital copy of this book。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

This book was like a stir fry made up of ingredients from some of my favorite crime and suspense novel tropes and plot devices: organized crime， dirty cops， that creepy “single white female” sort-of vibe， women fighting the system， grey morality， and a main character rowing against the current as hard as they can because no one’s going to tell them they can’t。 I’m not going to lie: this book starts out a little bit slow。 It took me a little while to lean into it， but once I did， I really couldn’ This book was like a stir fry made up of ingredients from some of my favorite crime and suspense novel tropes and plot devices: organized crime， dirty cops， that creepy “single white female” sort-of vibe， women fighting the system， grey morality， and a main character rowing against the current as hard as they can because no one’s going to tell them they can’t。 I’m not going to lie: this book starts out a little bit slow。 It took me a little while to lean into it， but once I did， I really couldn’t put it down。 It seemed to gain speed the way a train does: It pulls out of the station， fighting inertia to gain momentum as it tugs the cars behind it， but once it gains that momentum it just keeps huffing and puffing along and it doesn’t stop until that sucker pulls right into the next station， fighting the inertia coming behind it that wants to keep it moving。 This book， once it moves， moves full steam ahead and doesn’t stop until the end of the line。 And none of our characters get any breaks， either。 Especially not Philomena McCarthy， our protagonist。 Tugged every which way by family， love， job， and her own conscience， Phil doesn’t seem to get a moment of rest before it seems like another penny drops and she’s spun away again。 I’m not often surprised by most suspense and thriller novels。 I say that in many of my reviews in this genre。 And， indeed， I did spend a lot of time reading this book wanting to yell at Phil because some things seemed so obvious to me （and I was right on the majority of them）， but I didn’t see the final turn coming。 And it made me so happy。 I do love it when this genre of book manages to give me a kick like that。 I really did enjoy this book a whole lot。 A great standalone suspense thriller。 。。。more
